News Corp. Is Replacing Its Head of Communications - NYTimes.com

News Corporation will lose its head of communications next month, the company said Monday, as Teri Everett becomes the latest senior executive to depart the media conglomerate.

Ms. Everett, the company?s senior vice president for corporate affairs and communications, will leave on Feb. 11. Julie Henderson, currently senior vice president for communications and corporate strategy at News Corporation, will take over the responsibilities, dividing her time between New York and Los Angeles.

Ms. Everett, a media communications veteran, joined News Corporation in 2000 as vice president for corporate communications in Los Angeles and has presided over one of the most tumultuous periods at the media giant.

In the last six months, Ms. Everett has overseen media relations in the wake of a phone-hacking scandal in Britain and the ensuing departures of several senior executives and close advisers to the company?s chairman and chief executive, Rupert Murdoch. In a statement, Ms. Everett said that ?the past decade has, without a doubt, been the highlight of my career? and that she was ?ready for something new.?

Mr. Murdoch thanked Ms. Everett, saying in a statement: ?During her more than 10 years with News Corporation, Teri gained not only the trust and respect of all who worked with her ? but my great appreciation as well. She has been one of our most effective and well-liked executives.?

Ms. Henderson will report to Chase Carey, the president and chief operating officer. She will take the reins at a time when News Corporation?s British newspaper unit is still dealing with the fallout of the hacking scandal, which has put a relatively tiny dent in the company?s financial performance but created a continuing public-relations crisis. The media company?s profits, driven by cable retransmission fees, are expected to show continued growth when News Corporation reports its quarterly earnings next week.

?News Corporation is one of the world?s most innovative and forward-thinking media companies, and I look forward to working closely with our senior leadership to position the company at a time of great change and enormous opportunity,? Ms. Henderson said. ?I can?t wait to get started.?
