FTC, RockYou settle over exposed email passwords

(AP) ? The Federal Trade Commission says that an online game site called RockYou has reached a settlement with the government over a hacking attack that exposed email addresses and passwords from 32 million users.

The FTC said Tuesday that RockYou also violated online privacy rules covering children. The agency says the company collected email addresses and other information from about 179,000 children without parental consent.

RockYou CEO Lisa Marino says the events that led to the FTC's complaints took place more than two years ago. She says the company has long since removed the features that led to the investigation.

The settlement requires RockYou to implement a data security program and carries a fine of $250,000. RockYou develops social games. Its titles include "Gourmet Ranch" and "Zoo World."
